The Neighbourhood Mothers program is a peer-support volunteer program for women who have moved to Finland. Neighbourhood Mothers are organizing group activities, they help other women who have moved to Finland, and contribute to Finnish society.
Neighbourhood Mothers program operates in the Helsinki metropolitan area, South Karelia, and Pori.
Women who have completed the Neighbourhood Mothers training act as volunteer Neighborhood Mothers, each in their own way. The Neighbourhood Mothers have lived in Finland for some time, so each one is an expert on her own integration path. Thanks to this, they can provide tailored support to women whose integration is still in the beginning. Neighbourhood Mothers organize activities and events, assist in one-on-one meetings, and are happy to collaborate with other local organizations.
Participating in the Neighborhood Mothers activities is free of charge.
The values of the Neighbourhood Mothers program are community spirit, equality, non-discrimination, and joy. Our work is based on respectful and appreciative interactions, where everyone is treated as an individual. Our community is diverse, and our activities are gender- and culturally-sensitive.
The Neighbourhood Mothers program is politically and religiously unaffiliated.
Genuine agency, participation, utilizing one’s own skills, needs-based and self-directed action, a desire to help others, peer support, connection, caring, and making a difference. The Neighbourhhood Mothers program is all of this!
